Black Adam will break even with a profit of $52-72 million. Johnson revealed the exciting news while comparing numbers to what Captain America: The First Avenger made, which acted as the first film of the MCU timeline. As a result, Johnson perceives Black Adam as the first step to building a new franchise, but whether Gunn and Peter Safran see it this way is still to be determined, as they were hired by Warner Bros. Discovery in the midst of Black Adam’s release to reshape the DCU with a 10-year plan.

Fans recently learned Wonder Woman 3 was canceled because the script from Patty Jenkins and Geoff Johns did not fit Gunn’s blueprints regarding the franchise’s future. Furthermore, there could be no plans for Henry Cavill’s iteration of Superman or Black Adam, despite the Man of Steel’s return in the Johnson film. However, Johnson responded to a fan on Twitter by expressing it is all just noise and that Black Adam is only the beginning.
News of Wonder Woman 3 no longer moving forward was released under an hour after Johnson’s celebration tweet regarding the profit of Black Adam, which surely shook up fans who were excited for more of the character. There is also speculation that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom could be the last time fans see Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. Instead, Momoa could play the DC character Lobo, which may have been teased before as a “dream come true” secret DC project for Momoa.
As of now, nothing is set in stone, other than Wonder Woman 3 being canceled and Blue Beetle still being on schedule, as Gunn recently released a new poster of the film. While a DCU reboot may be possible, there is no current evidence to show that it is the case until Gunn or Warner Bros. Discovery reveals its plans to the public. Either way, Johnson appears confident, but the actor would need to be in contact with Gunn to know that Black Adam is in the clear.
Black Adam is now playing in theaters.
