The announcement was during the Wizards Presents stream. During the reveal, Wizards of the Coast outlined the futures of both Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering for the next couple of years.

Five new books were announced for the upcoming year. Though details were sparse, players have gotten sneak previews of some things coming in the new releases through Dungeons and Dragons’ playtest material, Unearthed Arcana.

Keys from the Golden Vault, releasing early 2023, is a heist-themed anthology of short, modular adventures, similar to Candlekeep Mysteries. Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants releases next spring, and is described as the giant-themed companion to Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons. The Book of Many Things, scheduled for next summer, is a sourcebook themed around the infamous Deck of Many Things. The Phandelver Campaign, also scheduled for next summer, is an adventure that picks up where 5th Edition’s first campaign, Lost Mines of Phandelver, left off. Planescape, releasing in fall of 2023, is revival of the eponymous campaign setting in the same way Spelljammer: Adventures in Space did recently.

This lineup does not include Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen, a new campaign book set in the land of Krynn, which is scheduled to release in late 2022. Additionally, Wizards of the Coast announced One D&D, an evergreen evolution of 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons, begins in 2024 with a revamped release of the Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual. Between this and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves hitting theaters in 2023, it is an exciting time to be a D&D fan.

Players are excited to learn more about the upcoming releases in 2023. Dungeons and Dragons players always love having more character options, and giants and the Deck of Many Things are amazing sources of inspiration for them. Lost Mines of Phandelver is one of the best adventures Wizards of the Coast has released, so an expansion of its story will be interesting to see. Like Spelljammer and Dragonlance, players have also been asking for a return to Planescape for years, so fans of the setting are elated to finally get to return to it. And as far as Keys from the Golden Vault is concerned, few Dungeons and Dragons fans can say no to a good heist adventure.

Dungeons and Dragons 5e is available now.
